CONTRA COSTA CO. (BCN) — A Martinez high school student was found dead Sunday at a home’s pool area in unincorporated Contra Costa County and investigators are working to determine how he died, county sheriff’s officials said.
Deputies were dispatched at 4:25 a.m. Sunday to a report of someone in a pool at a residence in the 100 block of Hill Girt Ranch Road near Martinez, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies arrived to find 15-year-old Andre Parrilla out of the water but not breathing, sheriff’s officials said. Fire personnel performed CPR on the teen but he died at the scene.
Investigators with the sheriff’s office are looking into the case.
A toxicology test was also conducted to determine the teen’s cause of death.
Parrilla was a freshman at Alhambra High School at 150 E St., where Martinez Unified School District provided grief counselors for students on Monday.
In an effort to support the teen’s family, $3,100 had been raised of a $15,000 goal as of this morning through a website established in the memory of another deceased Martinez teen.
The website, Hersmile.org, is part of a nonprofit created after the death of 14-year-old Martinez Junior High School student Jenna Betti, who was tragically struck by a train in Martinez in 2014.
Parrilla went to the same junior high school. Martinez Unified School District’s grief counselors were made available there as well as Morello Park Elementary School, another school he attended.
