Apple employee found dead inside conference room was 25-year-old Santa Clara man

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (KRON) — The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner’s office has identified the man found deceased inside a conference room at Apple headquarters as Edward Thomas Mackowiak, age 25, of Santa Clara.

An emergency dispatch call was made about 8:35 a.m. saying someone reported, “a person down” at the Apple campus located 1 Infinite Loop.

Santa Clara County firefighters responded to the scene around 8:45 a.m. but the call was quickly canceled, fire department spokeswoman Stephanie Stuehler said.

KRON obtained dispatch audio of the Apple shooting on Wednesday afternoon. In the recording, you can hear the dispatcher appear to say in part, “We have further info advising of a body in conference room with a gun…not certain of multiple involved.”

Sgt. Andrea Urena of the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office said the death of the male employee was an isolated incident and that no foul play is suspected.

The Medical Examiner determined the manner of death was suicide.

Apple said in a statement it is working to support the people who worked with the “young and talented” man. It declined to identify him.

“We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of a young and talented coworker,” the company said. “Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends, including the many people he worked with here at Apple.”
