SAN FRANCISCO, California – The only international 5K walk dedicated to empowering women on their quest for economic independence, The Power Walk for Dress for Success®, returns to San Francisco on Saturday, May 7, at 9:00am at the Little Marina Green.
Tracy Anderson, fitness pioneer and celebrity trainer, will serve as the Global Ambassador for the second year in a row for the almost 25 Power Walks taking place throughout the world.
Each mile on the 3.1 mile walk represents one of the three phases that the women of Dress for Success experience as they journey along their path to professional success—from being unemployed and searching, to recently employed and adjusting, to gainfully employed and succeeding.
The Power Walk for Dress for Success is an integral part of the organization’s health and wellness programming, as true success is encompassing of all aspects of life, including physical well-being.
“Dress for Success and I would like to help every woman get suited up from the inside out to just be themselves. It doesn’t matter where you are right now or how you got here. What matters is that you have a voice and talents that are ready to be valued and heard,” remarked Ms. Anderson.
The Power Walk for Dress for Success was launched in 2010 as a “walking testament” to the need for success-driven women to become healthy in all aspects of their lives. A study done by Healthways and the Health Enhancement Research Organization (HERO) proves that employees who exercise for at least 30 minutes, three times a week, are 15% more likely to have higher job performance, and 25% more likely when eating healthy.
Last year marked the 5th anniversary of The Power Walk for Dress for Success and more than 200 San Franciscans crossed the finish line in an effort to help the city’s women take a healthy step towards increasing work performance and prospering in their careers. With Ms. Anderson’s support and the support of The Power Walk for Dress for Success’ national sponsors, Pandora Jewelry and Benefit Cosmetics, this year stands to be the biggest yet.
Funds raised from the Power Walk of Dress for Success will directly support Dress for Success San Francisco’s career programs including Suiting Program, Job Search Program, Professional Women’s Group and Career Center. Premier sponsors, Capital One, Walmart and Seyfarth and Shaw lead a generous group of on-site event partners including Live 105, Target, Krave Jerky, Sweat Republic, Grub Market, Cocokind, Elevate Fitness, Serenity Foods, Can Can Cleanse, Lorna Jane and Kristen Nolan active wear.
