Martinez duo operating Concord firm facing 11 charges for alleged wage, tax fraud

MARTINEZ (BCN) — A Concord-based general contracting firm allegedly committed tax and payroll fraud and its executives are now facing felony charges, Contra Costa County District Attorney’s officials said today.

Nathan and Sarah Moore, who do business as NRM Renovations Inc., were charged with 11 counts as a result of a multi-jurisdictional investigation that began last year, prosecutors said.

The company is accused of owing more than $30,000 in back wages to several employees, around $250,000 in workers’ compensation premiums to insurance companies and back taxes for over $1 million in wages.

An investigation into the practices of NRM Renovations began in June 2015, when the U.S. Department of Labor received multiple wage and labor complaints.

There were allegations that workers were not being paid for work they completed while doing hotel renovations for the general contracting firm, according to the district attorney’s office.

Several state agencies then joined the county district attorney’s office in investigating the claims.
