San Jose High School assistant badminton coach arrested for inappropriate relationship with teen boy

SAN JOSE (KRON) — A San Jose high school assistant badminton coach has been arrested for allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with a 15-year-old boy, according to Ofc. Albert Morales.

Twenty-one-year-old Loc Nguyen, of San Jose, has been arrested and charged with annoying or molesting a child under 18 years old, police said.

Police said the boy was enrolled at San Jose High School, where Nguyen coached.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect was involved in an inappropriate dating relationship with a 15-year-old male student,” Morales said in a press release.

Nguyen was arrested on Wednesday at the high school, according to police.

Stephen McMahon, San Jose Unified School District’s Chief Business Officer of Administrative Services, said as soon as this inappropriate relationship was brought to the district’s attention, the district immediately notified San Jose police.

The district is working with police in helping with the criminal investigation in any way possible, McMahon said.

Nguyen is no longer employed with the district, according to McMahon. McMahon said he was unsure how long Nguyen had worked for the district but was able to confirm that assistant badminton coach was her only role at the district.

Nguyen did go through all required background checks when she was hired, McMahon said.
