SAN RAFAEL (BCN) — San Rafael police have arrested a suspect in a shooting in the Canal area of the city earlier this month, a police lieutenant said.
David Scallion-Martinez, 20, of San Rafael, is suspected of shooting a 34-year-old San Rafael man in the leg on Verdi Street near Belvedere Street on April 4, Lt. Raffaello Pata said.
The shooting victim drove to Novato Community Hospital the following day and was treated and released, police said.
The victim said two men in a white car robbed and shot him, and police determined the incident was gang-related, Pata said.
On Sunday, Officer Jack Carpenter stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation in the Canal neighborhood and arrested the driver, Scallion-Martinez, for driving on a suspended license, Pata said.
Carpenter found a loaded .44-caliber Magnum handgun in the vehicle and Cpl. Ronda Reese responded to assist him. Reese noticed Scallion-Martinez resembled a composite drawing of the shooting suspect, and the vehicle as similar to the one reported by the victim, Pata said.
Scallion-Martinez was identified as a known gang member and he was identified by the victim as the shooter, according to Pata.
Scallion-Martinez was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and participating in s street gang. He was booked into Marin County Jail under $600,000 bail.
