ALAMEDA (KRON) — A big-rig caught fire and is blocking multiple lanes of eastbound Interstate Highway 580 in unincorporated Alameda County east of Livermore Monday afternoon, a California Highway Patrol officer said.
The fire was reported shortly before noon near the North Flynn Road off-ramp and was blocking the three right eastbound lanes of the highway as of about 12:30 p.m., CHP Officer Kevin Bartlett said.
The big-rig driver suffered burn injuries and had to be airlifted.
The flames spread to nearby grass and fire crews are at the scene to extinguish the blaze, he said.
CHP is reporting that two lanes had reopened, but the big-rig still needs to be towed away from the scene.
The remaining lanes are expected to be reopened after 2 p.m.
