Crews extinguish 3-alarm mobile home fire in San Jose

SAN JOSE (BCN) — An elderly woman was rescued during a three-alarm fire at a mobile home park in East San Jose that firefighters knocked down Monday afternoon, a fire spokesman said.

Crews responded at 1:50 p.m. to multiple calls of a fire at La Buona Vita mobile home park off of North Capitol Avenue and north of McKee Road, Fire Capt. Christopher Salcido said.

Firefighters on scene found two mobile homes on fire and quickly upgraded the incident to a three-alarm response within 10 minutes due to the close proximity of the units from one another, Salcido said.

Crews evacuated people from homes in the immediate area and told other residents to close their windows due to the considerable amount of smoke produced by the fire, he said.

They rescued an elderly woman found inside one of the two involved homes near a front door, according to Salcido.

She was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene, the spokesman said.

No other injuries were reported.

The blaze had started at an old barn at a vacant lot just outside of the mobile home park before it spread to trees and other vegetation, he said.

The flames extended to a fence and two neighboring homes before crews knocked down the fire around 3 p.m., Salcido said.

The American Red Cross was called to assist the elderly woman and other residents displaced from the two units, he said.

As of shortly before 4 p.m., the evacuated residents weren’t allowed back inside their homes, according to Salcido.

The two homes next to the two units that were on fire sustained heat damage but were still habitable, Salcido said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
