OAKLAND (KRON) – A pedestrian was hit and killed on Interstate Highway 580 in Oakland early Friday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officers responded at 1:15 a.m. to a call from a motorist who said he had struck a pedestrian with his vehicle on eastbound I-580 near Keller Avenue.
Officers located a pedestrian on the right shoulder.
The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The preliminary investigation revealed the driver of a 2001 Chevy pickup, a 41-year-old Oakland man, struck the pedestrian who was walking or running on the highway, according to the CHP.
The driver immediately pulled over and is cooperating with investigators.
The driver was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol, according to the CHP.
The incident caused the closure of three lanes of the highway for about two hours as the CHP investigated the collision.
