Severe weather causes flash floods in Southern California

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A spring storm sweeping across Central and Southern California has sent water and mud flowing into one of the state’s main freeways and flooded some city streets.

The California Highway Patrol shut down Interstate 5 just north of Los Angeles on Friday afternoon due to flash flooding, causing a traffic backup.

CHP Sgt. Layne Logan says the freeway will remain closed until crews can clear debris from the road.

Meanwhile, in inland areas of Southern California, a thunderstorm dropped heavy rain in Ontario and Rancho Cucamonga, stranding some drivers who got caught in flooded streets. The roof of a warehouse in the area collapsed under the weight of accumulated rain water.
