PALO ALTO (KRON) — Palo Alto police are searching for a man who they said groped a 15-year-old girl in the Homer Avenue tunnel near Alma Street, according to Agent Marco Estrada.
Police said the man grabbed the girl’s buttocks in the tunnel near downtown Palo Alto on Monday afternoon. At around 4 p.m., police got a call from a parent that his or her 15-year-old daughter had been the victim of a sexual battery.
Officers did not find the suspect in the area, police said. Police said the victim was walking east through the tunnel when an unknown person grabbed her buttocks from behind for a few seconds.
When she started screaming, the suspect ran away west through the tunnel.
The girl was not hurt, and continued to walk home, where she told a parent what happened, police said.
Police are describing the victim as a 40-year-old Hispanic man, about 5 feet 6 inches tall, with a thin build. He has a short buzz haircut, with a goatee.
The girl said the man was wearing a black T-shirt with dark blue jeans. The victim is reported as smelling bad and as having crooked teeth.
Detectives are looking into whether the incident is connected to other similar cases in the area.
