Shooting near White House forces lock down

460x (8) 460x (9) (KRON) A shooting near the White House has forced a lock down.

CNN is reporting that a suspect is down and in custody after shots were fired near the White House complex.

CNN White House reporter Joe Johns says the suspect approached a Secret Service check point, the suspect brandished a weapon, Secret Service agents shot the suspect in the abdomen and taken into custody.

District of Columbia Fire and EMS spokesman Doug Buchanan says one patient was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition shortly after 3 p.m. eastern time.

A D.C. police spokesman said the Secret Service was investigating.

The President is not at the White House.

The Vice President was at the White House is safe.
