PALO ALTO (BCN) — A man was arrested in Palo Alto Thursday morning for allegedly stealing a bag of recyclables from another man and brandishing a weapon, according to police.
Police said officers responded to Park Boulevard near Cambridge Avenue shortly before 10 a.m. on reports of a brandishing.
According to police, officers quickly located 24-year-old Kenneth Ray Williams, and detained him without incident after discovering a broken pair of scissors with a three-inch blade.
During the investigation, officers discovered that the victim, a man in his 60s, was sitting on the east side of Peers Park located at 1899 Park Blvd., with his rolling cart full of personal belongings.
The victim told police he heard a noise and looked up to see Williams allegedly walking away with one of his bags of recyclables.
Police said the victim asked Williams to stop and followed him for about 10 feet, before Williams pulled out the broken scissors and told the victim to stop following him.
Fearing for his life, the victim contacted police immediately.
Williams was arrested on suspicion of felony robbery, and the stolen bag of recyclables was returned to the victim.
