UPDATE 2:26 PM: Vallejo Police have named Darrylone Shuemake, 53-year-old Vallejo resident as the suspect in the fire that killed a 5-year-old boy. He is at-large and considered armed and dangerous.
VALLEJO (KRON) — Authorities are now investigating a fire that killed a 5-year-old boy in Vallejo Sunday morning as suspicious.
The fire broke out around 9:53 a.m. at a residence at 827 Stella St., according to Vallejo fire officials.
A 5-year-old boy was trapped inside the home.
Neighbors tried to rescue the young boy, DeLeon, but were unsuccessful.
Firefighters called a second alarm for the fire and attempted to locate the boy inside, fire officials said. Firefighters found the child and confirmed him dead.
The mother of the child is being treated at a hospital for serious burns. She was hurt while trying to save her son.
A teenage boy was also taken to the hospital. He was treated for minor burns.
Authorities believe that the incident may have been arson and are actively investigating the cause of the blaze.
