SANTA ROSA (KRON) — A 15-year-old was shot and injured by police late Monday night in Santa Rosa, according to police.
Police received a report of a man armed with a gun at Coffey Park in Northwest Santa Rosa at around 11:36 p.m., according to police.
The first officer on scene immediately spotted the suspect standing on the east side of the park and noticed he was holding a handgun.
The officer attempted to communicate with the suspect, who at one point got down onto the ground.
The suspect then stood up and pointed the handgun at the officer.
That officer fired several rounds at the suspect, who immediately fell to the ground.
Both officers approached the suspect and took him into custody.
The suspect received a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the left foot. The shooting took place within a minute of the officers arriving on scene and making contact with the suspect. Only one officer fired his weapon.
The suspect was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
Investigators have learned the suspect intended to commit suicide by having a police officer shoot him.
The handgun possessed by the suspect was later determined to be a replica firearm.
