SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) — The San Francisco Zoo kicked off the start to summer by hosting a ‘Carnivore Carnival’ celebration Memorial Day weekend.
Guests were encouraged to learn about the zoo’s carnivorous animals, and engage in classic carnival games, a giant rock climbing, cotton candy and prizes, zoo officials said.
The herbivores didn’t go unnoticed during the festivities, according to zoo officials, a greater one-horned rhino named Gauhati celebrated his 21st birthday Saturday with special enrichment treats.
Animal keepers educated visitors about conservation of rhino species and what makes Gauhati a guest favorite.
Festivities continue Monday where guests can attend ‘Keeper Talks’ learning all about the meat-eating animals.
