HERCULES (KRON) — The mayor of Hercules said he, along with the mayor El Cerrito, are going to meet with the governor next Monday to discuss cameras on Highway 4.
This is seen as a big development in the push to get surveillance cameras along East Bay freeways in hopes of stopping the recent rash of shootings.
The mayor is leading the push to get cameras installed along the Highway 4 corridor.
He has sent a letter asking the state for immediate help.
The mayor adds he has mayors from three other cities who are thinking about signing the letter as well.
This is a different letter than the one from mayors who sent a letter asking for help with the shootings on Interstate 80.
There have been at least 28 shootings on Highway 4 and Interstate 80 since last year.
