CONCORD (KRON) — Police are investigating the mysterious theft of a Concord woman’s front yard.
Police said someone stole several sections of artificial turf, and then drove off.
According to the Concord Police Department, early Sunday morning, someone stole the artificial turf off Sandra Fischer’s front lawn. She did not notice it was gone until around 8 a.m., when a neighbor stopped by and knocked on her door.
“And she said, ‘What happened Sandy? You didn’t like your lawn?’ Fischer said. “I said, ‘I love my lawn, Why do you ask?’ And then she said, ‘It’s gone!'”
The police department said this is the first recorded case of someone stealing a lawn in Concord.
At this point, they have not identified any suspect, but at around 5 a.m. Sunday morning, a neighbor around the corner apparently saw an older blue Ford Bronco driving around with something hanging out the back door.
Sandra, who has lived here since the 1970s, said she is going to install video cameras around her house and replace the turf, although that could take several weeks.
She has also borrowed a car and parked it on what remains of her front yard just in case the thieves try to come back and finish the job.
“Then I called the police department and asked if it’s OK if I park the car on my other half,” Fischer said.
