Petaluma transient arrested for having assault rifles and ammunition

PETALUMA (KRON) — Police have arrested a transient after finding weapons and ammunition inside his car Wednesday afternoon.

Christopher Middleton, 18, allegedly waved his gun at someone inside his car during an argument on Highway 101 near Petaluma around 4:40 p.m.

The passenger called police after the two stopped at the Memorial Dog Park parking lot.

Officers searched Middleton’s car and found two 30-round magazines, an shotgun, a gas mask, a .22 caliber rifle and a black ski mask inside his car, police said.

Police have not said why Middleton had these weapons.

Officers also found bomb-making materials inside the vehicle and told the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office bomb squad.

Middleton told officers he was aiming at trees in the park with his assault rifle, police said.

He is now being held on a $10,000 bail at the Sonoma County Jail.
