SANTA CRUZ (KRON) — A Santa Cruz man is behind bars after being suspected of molesting a child.
Police arrested 47-year-old Timothy Ritchison last Friday. The family of the preschool-aged female victim first reported the information to police last Thursday.
The victim’s mother said she discovered video evidence of Ritchison molesting her child.
Ritchison later confessed to the molestation in an interview with police. The suspect was known and trusted by the family, police said.
Police found out about the case at around 7:45 p.m. last Thursday when Santa Cruz police officers were investigating a car burglary. Officers learned the victim’s mother reported the burglary, police said.
At the time, the mother found video evidence of the Ritchison molesting her child, police said.
“The shocked and distraught mother confronted Mr. Ritchison with the video and then fled in her car to an acquaintances home to call the police,” police spokeswoman Joyce Blaschke said. “While the mother and child were in the home, the suspect Timothy Ritchison shattered the passenger side window and stole the video evidence from the car.”
Ritchison then drove away in his white 2006 Buick sedan.
He was arrested and booked into the El Dorado County Jail and extradited to the Santa Cruz County Jail on $250,000 bail.
Ritchison is being charged with lewd and lascivious acts with a child.
