Collision servers utility support pole

WATSONVILLE (BCN) — Police in Watsonville Saturday morning are investigating a hit-and-run collision involving a vehicle that severed a utility support pole.

Officers with the Watsonville Police Department responded at 2:35 a.m. to a report of wires down on Riverside Drive at First Street and located a purple Honda Accord abandoned at the scene of a collision with a utility support pole.

The collision severed the pole and left it and several wires down in the roadway, police said.

The incident also left other utility lines hanging very low over both directions of Riverside Drive between Walker and Rodriguez streets, police said.

Witnesses told police a male driver and pregnant woman left the scene on foot.

The incident closed Riverside Drive in both directions, and the road was still closed as of 4:30 a.m.

Police said there was no estimated time for the roadway to reopen.
