Woman robbed in front of home, police looking for suspect

FREMONT (BCN) — Police are looking for a suspect that robbed a woman in front of her residence in Fremont Wednesday.

According to police, the victim was walking up to her home in the 2000 block of Abaca Way when a suspect pulled her to ground, maced her face and took her purse.

Police said the suspect fled in an awaiting vehicle, and responding officers were unable to locate neither the suspect nor the vehicle.

Police said the suspect dragged the woman across the driveway. He first demanded the purse, and then pepper-sprayed her, and then dragged her across the driveway as they both held onto the purse.

The suspect freed the purse and ran to an awaiting vehicle, police said. The suspect may have followed her from an ATM off Washington Blvd where she had just taken out cash before heading home.

Residents describe the area as quiet. The woman sustained some scratches and abrasions.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic man in his 20s around five feet five inches tall, 160 pounds with a shaved head. He was last seen wearing a dark hoodie and entered a white or silver sedan.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact Officer Contrada at (510) 790-6800.
