SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — San Francisco police arrested two men in connection with a series of robberies and an attempted carjacking, including targeting a teen playing Pokémon Go.
The robberies occurred in San Francisco’s Potrero Hill and Portola districts earlier this week.
The first robbery occurred on Sunday, July 10 around 8:00 p.m. on Silver Avenue. A 16-year-old male was holding his own and his sister’s cell phone to play the Pokémon Go game, police said. The suspect grabbed the phones and ran to a waiting get-away vehicle. The vehicle described as a second coupe, was being driven by a second suspect.
The teen boy was shaken up but not injured, police said.
The second incident occurred shortly after the first, on Monday, July 11 around 1:10 a.m. at 23rd and Dakota streets. A 19-year-old man was meeting a friend when he was approached by two suspect who demanded money. When the suspects found that the man had no money in his pockets they punched him multiple times in his head and stole roller blades and other personal affects.
The victim suffered non-life threatening injures, police said.
Not even an hour later, just after 2:00 a.m. police responded back to the location at 23rd and Dakota streets on report of a robbery. Officers heard shots fired nearby and saw a silver Pontiac pass their location.
Thinking the vehicle was the source of the gunshots, officers pursued the vehicle and pulled it over at 20th and Tennessee streets but were unable to tie the vehicle’s occupants to the shooting.
Police said they now believe the vehicle’s occupants were actually the likely targets of the shots.
About two hours later, around 4:00 a.m., a 58-year-old male was sitting in his vehicle at Vermont and Mariposa streets when he was robbed at gunpoint by two suspects. The suspects took his cash, but when they demanded his car the victim drove away safely, police said.
Later that morning, police identified 19-year-old Manu Pomele of San Francisco and 20-year-old Jonathan Limu of San Francisco as suspects in the robberies.
Pomele and Limu were arrested on suspicion of multiple counts of robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, firearm charges, one count of attempted carjacking and conspiracy.
