NICE, France (KRON) — Sara Luka, of Walnut Creek, was enjoying the Bastille Day fireworks with her two children on a beach in Nice, France when terror broke out.
“I saw people started running away…so I grabbed both of kids and we just started running with thousands and thousands of people,” Luka said.
84 people were killed and more than 200 injured when a truck plowed through a crowd during the Bastille Day celebrations in Nice.
Luka says she first saw a big truck driving through the street. She then heard gunshots and people screaming so she picked up her children and fled.
“It was pretty scary…we saw a guy laying with blood all over his head and hands.”
As they ran, Luka says she could hear children screaming for their mothers.
“Thousands and thousand of people were running screaming for help,” Luka said.
Luka’s 8-year-old son, Tiger, also spoke to KRON4 about the horror he witnessed.
He describes running through the streets trying to keep up with his mother before getting to their hotel.
“Mom, what if they break the door and come in?” Tiger feared as they locked themselves in their room.
The attack ended after police killed the armed attacker in a hail of bullets.
