VIDEO: BART closures due to rail damper installations to help cut noise

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — BART will have closures beginning this weekend through mid October as they are installing custom made rail dampers to help cut the noise level at what has been one of their loudest stretches of track, between Balboa Park and Daly City.

The dampers are made out of steel and rubber. The dampers physically clamp onto the rail every 30 inches and help lessen the vibration that cases the well-known screeching noise when trains travel over the track.

BART plans to shut down a section of track for vital repairs as part of the rebuilding and rail replacement program.

BART has provided the subject to change weekend closures:

• July 30, 31
• August 13, 14
• August 20, 21
• September 3, 4, 5 (Labor Day Weekend)
• September 17, 18
• October 1, 2
• October 15, 16

BART will update online as necessary

West Oakland installation will occur later in 2016 and will not require a track shutdown.
