WALNUT CREEK (KRON) — Police are looking for two women accused of snatching at least three wallets in downtown Walnut Creek, according to the Walnut Creek Police Department.
Police believe the pair is responsible for at least three sperate wallet thefts from various restaurants between July 27 and August 5.
Video released by police shows one suspect stealing a wallet from a woman dining at a restaurant while the other suspect keeps watch.
At least four victims have come forward, police said.
“Our victims have no idea that a wallet was just stolen,” said Walnut Creek police Lt. Lanny Edwards.
Immediately after stealing the wallets, the duo started using the credit cards at nearby businesses and at Sun Valley Mall in Concord, police said.
“Actually, they were still at lunch when they got a notification on their smart phone that their credit card was being used,” Edwards said. “Our primary suspect who put her hand in the victim’s purse is described as an African American female about five feet seven inches tall, medium build early to mid-twenties. She has long black hair. This is the second suspect the lookout who was on the cellphone the whole time. Earlier, there was a picture of her on her cellphone. Now there is a picture of her entering the restaurant.”
Investigators say fraudulent purchases worth thousands of dollars were made with credit cards. Police say this video is a key piece of evidence in this case.
“Big brother is watching which is great in this case,” Edwards said. “It’s high resolution video, clear what they look like. It’s just a matter of time before someone calls us and tells us who they are”
The owner of Rooftop, one of the restaurants hit by the thieves, is offering a $1,000 reward for someone to come forward with information leading to the arrests of the two supects.
Anyone that may recognize either of the two suspects are asked to call the Walnut Creek Police Department. Refer to case 16-27261.
