SALINAS (BCN) — Police recovered an airsoft replica firearm after two teenage brothers were attacked and threatened with the weapon by two suspects Friday night in Salinas.
The incident began around 8:50 p.m., when two brothers were walking home from an event at Rabobank Stadium, located on Maryal Drive, according to police.
The brothers, 13 and 16 years old, were walking on East Laurel Drive, near Maryal Drive, when two teens approached the 13-year-old from behind and grabbed him, police said.
The 13-year-old initially thought the suspects were his friends, but when he turned around, he did not recognize them. The 16-year-old then came to his brother’s defense and began fighting with the suspects, according to police.
The 16-year-old was punched twice in the face by one of the suspects. That suspect then pulled out an airsoft replica firearm and pointed it at the 16-year-old.
The two then began fighting for the gun, before it fell to the ground, police said.
An off-duty officer nearby witnessed the fight and approached them, resulting in the suspects fleeing on foot, according to police.
Police were able to recover to the airsoft gun.
The brothers described one suspect as a young Hispanic male, with a light complexion, acne and a mustache. The brothers were only able to describe the second suspect as a young Hispanic male with a light complexion.
Both suspects spoke English with a Spanish accent, according to police.
