Man holds 10 children hostage after wrecking car in SC

FLORENCE (WBTW) – The Florence County Sheriff’s Office say they have a man in custody after he held 10 kids hostage Sunday afternoon in a mobile home.

According to Maj. Michael Nunn with the Florence County Sherriff’s Office, Dwayne Muldrow, 46, of Effingham was arrested and charged with 1st degree Burglary, DUI and Kidnapping shortly after 1:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

According to Sheriff Kenny Boone, deputies responded to a call about a crash off Savannah Grove Rd in Florence.

Boone says, a witness immediately called and said the driver drove off, got out of the car, and went back to the car to get a gun. Boone says they are trying to confirm if the man had a gun.

Deputies say the man then walked to a mobile home down T and W Lane where 10 kids were playing inside. Deputies say the man went inside the mobile home and made the kids go into a bedroom where he kept them for at least 20-30 minutes. Deputies were able to surround the mobile home.

Boone says the SWAT team, deputies and a negotiator arrived and quickly talked the man into letting the children go.

One of the children escaped the home and when Muldrow ran outside after the child, he was taken into custody by deputies.

No on was injured during the incident.

The incident remains under investigation and Muldrow could face additional charges.
