6 cited in San Rafael alcohol sales to minors sting

SAN RAFAEL (BCN) — Six people were cited Saturday for either selling alcohol to minors or purchasing it for them, San Rafael police said.

Two store clerks were cited for selling alcohol to minors and four patrons were cited for agreeing to purchase alcohol for a minor outside the store.

The minors attempted to purchase alcohol from 12 licensed businesses and two, the Smart & Final on Anderson Drive and El Lucerito restaurant on Lincoln Avenue, agreed to do so, police said.

Norma Calderon, 21, and Marvin Santos Perez, 21, both of San Rafael, were cited in the minor decoy operation, police said. They face a $250 fine and 24 to 32 hours of community service for a first violation.

The California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control also could levy a fine or suspend or permanently revoke the businesses’ licenses to sell alcohol, police said.

During a shoulder tap operation, four adults were cited for agreeing to buy alcohol for a person under 21 years old.

They are Emmanuel Gonzalez Gutierrez, 27, Fernando Tafoya Alvarado, 33, Jarome Robinson, 25, all of San Rafael, and Jaime Ordonez Cruz, 24, of Novato.
