Caltrans hits car on Richmond-San Rafael Bridge

RICHMOND (KRON) — A car crash on the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge is causing a major backup on eastbound I-580 Tuesday morning.

A Caltrans vehicle hit a car on the bridge at around 5:39 a.m., according to California Highway Patrol officials.

The car caught on fire at one point but has since been extinguished.

Only one lane is open eastbound on the bridge.

The collision has caused the traffic to back up into the North Bay.

A tow truck is headed to the scene.
