OAKLAND (BCN) — An alleged truck thief was arrested Tuesday when the truck’s owners drove him to the California Highway Patrol office in Oakland after he offered to sell them some diapers, CHP officials said.
The truck was stolen overnight from outside the owners’ home in West Oakland, according to the CHP.
In the morning, the owners went out looking for it, driving around until they found it near the Greyhound bus station on San Pablo Avenue.
The suspect, identified as 49-year-old Berkeley resident Brett Walker, was still inside.
The trucks’ owners followed Walker for a few blocks until he stopped.
They parked nearby to call police, but Walker walked over to their car and offered to sell them some diapers, CHP officials said.
The owners said they didn’t have any money, but offered to drive to a bank to get some.
Walker got into their car and they all drove to the CHP office in Oakland, where Walker was arrested.
