SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — On Sunday, the nation will remember the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks that claimed the lives of nearly 3,000 people in 2001.
Sunday is the 15-year anniversary of the attacks.
Events across the Bay Area will remember that dark day in America history.
Here is a list of some of them:
1. San Francisco Fire Department Remembrance and Unveiling ceremony
September 11, 2016, marks the 15th Anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. The San Francisco Fire Department, as it has done on September 11th of each year since the attacks, will hold a City-wide remembrance ceremony in honor of the men and women that died that tragic day.
This year, in addition to the annual City-wide ceremonies held at every San Francisco Fire Station, the Department will hold a special Remembrance Ceremony at the Public Safety Building. The ceremony will include the unveiling of a remnant from one of the World Trade Towers. The remnant, which was procured by the SFFD, will be installed for public viewing at a later date.
2. Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department Sept. 11 Remembrance Ceremony
On Sunday, September 11, the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department (LPFD) will host a public ceremony at LPFD Headquarters/Fire Station 1 at 3560 Nevada Street, Pleasanton at 9:00 am . Besides remembering those who fell on September 11, 2001, veterans and military active duty members will also be honored. A reception and Fire Station One Open House follow the ceremony.
3. Sept. 11 Remembrance Ceremony at Union City Flight 93 Memorial
The ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. at Sugar Mill Landing Park behind the Union Landing shopping center, located at Alvarado-Niles and Dyer streets.
4. Homecoming Sunday
A church service recognizing the 15th anniversary of the terrorist attacks and current events. It will be held at the sanctuary of Unitarian Universalist Church, located at 1187 Franklin Street in San Francisco.
5. San Jose Fire Department Anniversary Tribute
The anniversary tribute starts at 11:30 a.m., followed by a 12:45 p.m. memorial procession to San Jose fire station 1. The recommended arrival time is at 11 a.m. The event will start at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph, located at 80 S. Market St. in San Jose.
6. Multi-faith Peace Walk and Picnic
Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors President Dave Cortese and multi-faith voices for peace and justice will be at the event. It starts at 1:30 p.m. at 4161 Alma St. in Palo Alto. At 4:30 p.m., there will be a picnic at Mitchell Park on 600 E. Meadow Drive in Palo Alto.
