LAKE WALES, Fla. (WFLA) – Police say the girlfriend of a man who was supposed to submit a urine test called in a bomb threat at his Winter Haven probation office to prevent it from happening.

Deniz Martinez, 31, of Lake Wales is charged with Filing A False Report Concerning Planting a Bomb, which is a felony. Police released a recording of the call they say she made to 911 (listen above).

“She needed to do anything to get him out of there,” said Jamie Brown of the Winter Haven Police Department, referring to Martinez.

Investigators say at 2:42 p.m. on Sept. 13, Martinez called 911 and said there was a man in front of the Probation and Parole building located at 1289 1st St. South in Winter Haven and he was going to blow the building up.

Martinez then allegedly hung up when the dispatcher questioned the caller. Attempts to call the number back were not successful.

Winter Haven Police Department officers determined that the cell phone number belonged to Martinez.

Detectives learned that Martinez transported her boyfriend, Jason Drake, 38, to the probation office at 8:30 a.m. for a scheduled urinalysis. Drake was unable to provide the urine sample, so he had to stay in the building until he could provide a sufficient sample. The 911 call was made six hours later.

“It’s very serious,” Moore insisted when asked about the alleged crime.

It was so serious that the building had to be shut down and everyone was evacuated.

Winter Haven police officers responded to the scene and within 30 minutes, the all-clear was given.

Officers determined the call to 911 was a hoax and stayed with Drake while additional resources were utilized to locate Martinez.

Shortly after, Martinez was located at her apartment in Lake Wales. Police say she admitted that she called in the bomb threat so her boyfriend would get out of his urinalysis.

Martinez was arrested. Drake was later arrested for Violation of Probation since he didn’t produce the required urinalysis. The investigation into Drake’s role in the bomb threat is ongoing and possible charges could be filed in the future.

According to Winter Haven police, this is Martinez’s first run-in with the law.

People outside the building on Wednesday couldn’t believe what happened.

“That is like the crazies thing I ever heard,” said Tina Cobb of Winter Haven. “Why would you do that?”

“It’s a case of somebody that loves somebody so much evidently they’d throw everything away,” Brown said. “Love is blind and love can make you do think normal people just can’t fathom.”
