SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — The San Francisco Police Department is making moves to expand their homicide unit to focus on cold cases, according to officials with the department.

A veteran homicide inspector has rejoined the department this week after community members requested additional resources to help solve cold cases, police said.

“Our department is committed to solving these cold case investigations and we are making the best use of our resources,” interim police Chief Toney Chaplin said in a statement.

“We are bringing back experienced, knowledgeable veterans whom we hope can help bring these cases to a conclusion with an arrest and successful prosecution,” Chaplin said.

Police are asking anyone with information about a homicide case to call the homicide detail at (415) 553-1145. People wishing to remain anonymous can call a tip line at (415) 575-4444 or send a tip by text message to TIP411 and begin the text with “SFPD.”
