Hayward police find missing 83-year-old man

UPDATE: He has been found at a hospital.

“Unfortunately, the hospital is not allowed to release information to us about his status or why he was admitted – but it does not appear that he is the victim of a crime,” Sgt. Ryan Cantrell said.

HAYWARD (KRON) — Hayward police are looking for a missing, at-risk 83-year-old man who hasn’t been seen since Thursday, according to Sgt. Ryan Cantrell.

Thomas Voneckardt, of Hayward, was last seen at his business, a laundromat on East 14th Street in San Leandro, at around 4 p.m., police said.

Police describe him as 6 feet tall, 195 pounds and balding with gray hair and gray eyes.

Investigators do not know what he was wearing or where he might have gone. He has no family in the area and was reported missing by a friend who had not heard from him over the weekend, police said.

Voneckardt drives a maroon 2003 Honda CRV with California license plate number 7UIZ533, which is also missing.

Anyone with information about Voneckardt’s location is asked to contact Detective Trevor Vonnegut at (510) 293-7034 or email HaywardPDTips@hayward-ca.gov.
