LARKSPUR (KRON) — Racist graffiti was spray painted at Redwood High School in Larkspur, according to school officials.
The graffiti was spray painted on the “Spirit” ball at the athletic field.
The vandalism happened between 3 p.m. Monday and 8 a.m. Tuesday.
“Early this morning, prior to the start of school, we became aware of graffiti painted on a structure on the Redwood High School campus,” Senior Director of Student Services Wesley Cedros said. “The graffiti contained a racial epithet and targeted a specific school employee. Pictures of the graffiti were taken as evidence and the structure was painted over prior to the start of the school day.”
The staff and the students were not told about the racist message.
The school has removed the graffiti.
The case is being investigated as a hate crime because of the hateful speech found on the ball.
“School officials are working closely with the Central Marin Police Authority to identify the persons responsible. We consider this a very serious matter and will investigate accordingly,” Cedros said. “If any member of the public has any information about this incident, we ask that they immediately contact Central Marin Police Authority at (415)-927-5150.
