VIDEO: Police continue search for Michigan school bus shooter

JACKSON, Mich. (WLNS) — Police were back at T.A. Wilson Academy Tuesday afternoon to make sure students got out of school safely.

One day after a suspect shot a student on a school bus, police are finding out new information, and are still trying to catch the suspect.

The trigger was pulled inside a Jackson school bus Monday afternoon after classes got out.

Police quickly responded to the scene and found a 17-year-old male student was shot in his arm.

Witnesses say the suspect got on the bus, called out the student’s name, shot him, and then ran off.

Police believe the shooting may have stemmed from a previous fight.

“Possibly an acquaintance of the suspect could have been involved in a fight with our victim,” said Deputy Chief Elmer Hitt of the Jackson Police Department.

No arrests have been made, but police say they are close to identifying a suspect.

“We’re hoping to be able to confirm that at some point here in the next couple days,” Hitt said.

The student is expected to make a full recovery and should be released from the hospital Tuesday.

“He is not being real forthcoming with information. We definitely believe he most likely knows who shot him,” Hitt said.

Police are asking people to come forward with more information.

Meanwhile, the school district is ramping up security while reviewing the shooting with authorities.

“What do we know, what happened, what do we need to do better, what did we do right,” Jackson School District Superintendent Jeff Beal said.

Beal says help has been offered to students struggling with what happened.

“We have our own social worker network and counselor network within the district that reaches out, and we touch base with every single kid in the building,” Beal said.

Parents and students can expect to see extra security at Jackson schools for the rest of the week.
