FREMONT (KRON) — A woman was shot two times in Fremont during an attempted robbery Sunday night, but she is expected to recover, police said on Tuesday.
The 39-year-old woman was walking on Stanley Avenue near Mahoney Street at about 9:30 p.m. when she was approached by a young woman who brandished a small-caliber handgun and demanded the victim’s purse, according to Fremont police.
The woman refused and was shot by the suspect, described as a thin- or medium-build Hispanic woman in her late teens or early 20s, 5 feet 4 inches tall, with brown curly hair and wearing a long-sleeve red shirt with gray stripes, according to police.
The suspect got into the passenger side of a newer model dark colored SUV with ski racks and fled the area.
The victim ran to her nearby home and was taken to the hospital by a relative. Her wounds don’t appear to be life-threatening, police said.
Officers interviewed nearby neighborhood residents after the attack and several people said they heard three or four “pops” but didn’t call police.
