Fleet Week gears up for week full of activities

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — The 36th annual Fleet Week is gearing up Monday for a week full of activities in San Francisco.

The Blue Angels arrived at the Oakland International Airport on Sunday. The official start of Fleet Week is Thursday when the Blue Angels will begin practicing over the Bay between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.

On Monday, an earthquake drill will be performed. Crews will test out the “Bay Area Earthquake Plan” by acting as if a massive earthquake has just hit the Bay Area.

“Testing this ‘last tactical mile’ helps to ensure that when San Francisco’s ingress/egress points are limited due to damaged infrastructure, resources will still be able to flow into the city.”

The USS San Diego will arrive in the San Francisco Bay at Pier 30/32 at around 12 p.m.

Also, KRON4’s Meteorologist Brittney Shipp is scheduled to fly with the Blue Angels on Monday.
