SANTA CLARA COUNTY (KRON)—A San Jose man has pleaded guilty Tuesday morning to 21 felony counts of animal cruelty after he was accused of stealing, torturing and killing cats, according to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office.

Robert Farmer, 24, was arrested on Oct.8, 2015 and officers found him sleeping next to a dead cat in his car.

All the crimes occurred in the Cambrian Park neighborhood last year.

A necropsy exam was done on the cat that was found.

The cat died of blunt force trauma and might have been sexually abused.

Farmer has been in custody at the Elmwood Correctional Facility in Milpitas since his arrest.

He could spend up to 16 years and four months in prison.

A sentencing date has not been set yet.

Farmer is the son of a retired San Jose police captain.
