“Creepy Clown” hoax reaches San Mateo high schools through social media

SAN MATEO (KRON) — The “Creepy Clown” hoax has now reached San Mateo high schools through social media, according to police.

The post listed several schools in the county, including two San Mateo high schools. No threats were made and police said they will continue to monitor the situation.

Police said they were made aware of an Instagram post saying that a subject dressed as a clown would show up at two area high schools. There were no threats made in the post.

“SMPD in partnership with our schools have assigned School Resource Officers that are aware of the post and are collaborating with San Mateo Union School District and San Mateo-Foster City School District to ensure students’ safety,” police said.

Police said they will increase patrols in the area.

This is the latest version of the creepy clown hoax to sweep the nation–and now the Bay Area.
