SAN JOSE (BCN) — A woman had been arrested in a suspected DUI crash off of Interstate Highway 680 in San Jose that left her passenger dead early Thursday morning, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.
Arianna Alyssa Rabago, 19, of San Jose, was arrested on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter for the crash on southbound Highway 680 to McKee Road around 3:15 a.m., CHP Officer Ross Lee said.
The passenger has been identified as 25-year-old Urbano Castillo-Mentado of San Jose, according to the Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office.
The 19-year-old woman was exiting Highway 680 to McKee Road and lost control of the car, a 2002 Toyota Avalon, that overturned multiple times on the freeway’s on- and off-ramps, Lee said.
Rabago, who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, was ejected and landed about 20 feet away from the car, which came to rest on an embankment, according to Lee.
She was transported to Regional Medical Center of San Jose for major injuries and remained hospitalized as of Thursday afternoon, but an update on her condition wasn’t immediately available, Lee said.
The passenger, who wore a seatbelt, was extricated from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, according to Lee.
