AAA: Top deadly mistakes teen drivers make

ROANOKE (WSLS) – A report released this morning by AAA identifies the top three deadly mistakes made by teen drivers who were involved in nearly 14,000 fatal crashes in the past five years.

The study found speeding is the top mistake teens make when learning to drive.

Distraction and poor visual scanning round out the top three.

But the study also finds fault with parents who aren’t preparing their teens for the road, and are often setting a bad example.

AAA recommend states review and possibly strengthen their Graduated Driver Licensing laws, and parents should become effective in-car coaches.
