EL DORADO COUNTY (KRON)—A missing aircraft has been found in the Sierra Nevada Mountains Tuesday afternoon.
The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office found the plane around 4:15 p.m.
Personnel also found a deceased man near the aircraft.
“This was truly a team effort between the Civil Air Patrol and the El Dorado County Sheriff,” said Incident Commander Major Shane Terpstra. “While we didn’t get the outcome we had hoped for, the locating of the crash and recovery of the victim allows the family to begin the grieving process and gives them a sense of closure. Our condolences go out to the victim’s family” said Terpstra.
The identity of the man is not available at this time.
The aircraft was first reported missing Sunday after it left from Idaho and did not arrive in Sacramento at its scheduled time.
The search was stopped Sunday because of severe weather conditions.
Col. Jon Stokes with the Civil Air Patrol said in a statement the patrol sent three planes to help find the missing aircraft.
“High winds, overcast conditions and fresh snow on the ground has made searching difficult,” Stokes said. “AP was joined by helicopters from the California Army National Guard and the California Highway Patrol but the missing aircraft has not been located.”
Crews continued their search Monday morning.
