Gas main leak prompted evacuations in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A natural gas main leak promted evacuations in San Francisco on Wednesday afternoon.

San Francisco emergency officials responded to a gas main leak in the city’s Hunters Point District.

Shortly before 2:00 p.m., the San Francisco Fire Department reported the leak at 401 Innes Avenue.

The leak was determined to be a 4-inch natural gas line which was hit when a construction crew was working.

The immediate area was evacuated. About 20 subjects were evacuated from the 400 and 500 block of Innes Avenue. A San Francisco MUNI bus was being utilized as a temporary shelter for those evacuated.

SFPD, SFFD, PG&E, the contractor and MUNI were all on scene working to resolve the problem.

The incident was resolved shortly after 4:00 p.m.
