SAN MATEO COUNTY (KRON) — There was a major police crackdown on the Peninsula on Wednesday.

In a matter of hours, police pulled over 140 drivers in Menlo Park and East Palo Alto.

And plenty of them had excuses.

STEP is the acronym for Saturation Traffic Enforcement Team. It involves traffic officers from all around San Mateo County.

Officers target drivers not following the rules of the road. For example, rolling through stop signs, speeding, and texting while driving.
