CUPERTINO (BCN) — Police are looking for a man who posed as an undercover officer and attempted to lure a student into his car at De Anza College in Cupertino on Wednesday night.

The student told campus police around 8:40 p.m. that a man who claimed to be an undercover officer with Foothill-De Anza police told her she shouldn’t be walking alone, school officials said.

The man told the student he would issue her a ticket and demanded she enter his vehicle at Lot A with two other passengers inside, according to school officials.

The victim told officers that the man’s statements were forceful and aggressive. She was able to reach her own car when another vehicle drove between them, school officials said.

The suspect was in plainclothes and didn’t have any physical contact with the victim, police Chief Ron Levine said.

No arrests have been made, but detectives are following on leads. Officers generally don’t tell people they’re undercover, Levine said.

Anyone who finds themselves speaking with an officer not in uniform can ask to view their badge and ID card. If the person continues to seem questionable, they can call 911, Levine said.

The incident was a first for Levine in his 13 years with the department, which also provides law enforcement services at Foothill College in Los Altos Hills.

The suspect was described as a possibly Middle Eastern man who wore a gray T-shirt and had a thin build and slight accent. His hair was shaved on both sides and slightly longer and wavy at the top, school officials said.

The suspect vehicle was described as a black four-door BMW, possibly from 2010 to 2013, with heavily tinted windows, according to school officials.

Students, staff and faculty can request for a safety escort via the Police Department at (650) 949-7313. Those with information on the case are asked to call Foothill-De Anza police at (408) 924-8000.
