SONOMA COUNTY (BCN) — The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help to identify a person of interest who may be connected to a triple shooting that killed two people and injured another last week near Sebastopol.
The fatal shooting, which occurred on Oct. 15, allegedly took place during a marijuana sales transaction, according to sheriff’s officials.
Sheriff’s officials have released a surveillance image of a person of interest in the shooting. He’s described as a black man about 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a thin build and dreadlock or braided hair and a full beard.
He was reportedly wearing glasses with metal square rims around the eyes and thick black temple bars. He was also wearing a gray sweatshirt and jeans, sheriff’s officials said.
The man was last seen driving a newer model white Hyundai Sonata, accompanied by a female.
She was described as possibly being Hispanic, about 5 feet 2 inches tall, with a heavy build and a sub-dermal stud piercing on her right cheek. The woman possibly goes by the name Bonnie and was last seen wearing a blue, red and white striped sweatshirt with leggings, according to sheriff’s officials.
On Oct. 15, deputies responded to a home in the 5000 block of southbound state Highway 116 in unincorporated Sonoma County at around 8:15 p.m. There officers found the three victims suffering from gunshot wounds, sheriff’s official said.
Nathan Proto, 36, of Sebastopol, died at the scene, while John Jessie Mariana, 28, of Guerneville, died at a hospital Tuesday from his injuries.
A third shooting victim, a woman, remains hospitalized, according to sheriff’s officials.
At the home, deputies also recovered marijuana and determined it was linked to the shooting.
Anyone with information about the shooting or the identity of the person of interest is asked to contact the sheriff’s investigations unit at (707) 565-2185 or dispatch at (707) 565-2121.
