PLEASANTON (BCN) — Downtown Pleasanton’s first-ever “Good for the Soul” 5K/10K race and Kids’ Challenge will be held on Sunday morning, honoring Kate Steinle, a woman who was shot and killed on San Francisco’s Pier 14 on July 1, 2015.

“With this run, the organizers hope that people will come together to remember that life is short and tomorrow is not a guarantee,” event planner Jonathan Lance said in a statement.

Proceeds from the run will be donated to two organizations, Students Rising Above and the Challenged Athletes Foundation.

The run will start and finish under the Main Street Arch, Lance said. Participants can opt to run or walk the 5K, but the 10K is expressly a run.

The 5K and 10K courses are flat and fast, using the downtown streets and paved and unpaved Arroyo Trails.

Three separate Kids’ Challenge races, for children aged 2 through 8, will be a number of 100-yard dashes on Main Street, finishing under the Arch.

The pre-registration deadline is midnight on Friday, Lance said.
