OAKLAND (KRON) — A man has now died after a drive-by shooting in Oakland over the weekend.
The shooting happened on the 7700 block of Bancroft Avenue in East Oakland.
Witnesses reporting hearing almost two dozen shots and some of those were aimed at officers.
In all, seven people were shot. Now, Oakland police confirm that 35-year-old William Chavis has died of his wounds.
Police don’t believe he was the target of the shooting, but aren’t saying who was. In fact, they are still searching for a motive.
Police and crime scene technicians said they were shot at about an hour after the initial shooting as they were gathering evidence.
None of those police officers were injured.
Many of the other six who were wounded remain hospitalized.
The victims range in age from 27 to 45 years old.
